My Thanksgiving break was fantastic. It started with the NC State game, which was a very good game because we beat them. Sunday morning my roommate and I got up at 6:00 a.m. and left for home. The ride went by pretty fast which is great because usually we always get stuck in traffic. I arrived at my house around 12:00 p.m. with my dog outside waiting to greet me. When I got inside my parents hugged me and I realized I was the first one who got home. I have two cousins that go to Virginia Tech too so they arrived a little later and we all got to hang out as a family. It was nice to sit and talk about everything that had happened since I’d been home. That evening we ate dinner with some really close friends of the family which was great because they have a two year old daughter who is hilarious.
The next day I went to my best friend, Alex’s, house and it was cool to catch up with her. I never realized how so much could happen in so little time. She told me all about how her sister had a baby and she was really excited about it because that was her first niece. We went and got her brother from school and then I helped her with a project that I had done the previous year. That night I went to my friend, Tallie’s, house and ate dinner with her. She goes to Old Dominion University. Her roommate had come home with her so I got to meet her. I really enjoyed that night because I hadn’t seen her since I left for college. My friend that dropped out of Virginia Tech was also there that night so I got to tell him about everything that’s been going on since he left.
Tuesday I got up and ate lunch at my high school with Alex. It was then that I realized how much I love the food here at Tech. The food was so awful and I’m really glad I don’t have to eat that anymore. After lunch I went with my cousin and we got pedicures. It was good to spend time with her because even though she goes here I still don’t see her very often. I went to YMCA Afterschool shortly after we got our pedicures. It is a child care program where we watch after the kids in Elementary School. It was one of my previous jobs before I came to college. I loved seeing all of the kids again because they are so sweet. I miss that job so much because I love being about children. It’s kind of weird because before I got that job I never really liked kids much, but after working with them you get to see the different sides to them. I got to go to dinner with a woman that I consider my second mother on Tuesday night. It was so good to catch up with her. That night I stayed with Alex and a couple of my other friends came over too.
Wednesday I didn’t really do anything except sit around my house. My cousins and I helped my aunt set up for Thanksgiving Day because we always have our whole family down for Thanksgiving. We went out to eat that night at a Mexican restaurant because my parents didn’t want to make a mess at home. I got something called a crazy burrito and it was so delicious.
Thursday I woke up in a very excited mood because I knew I was going to get to see my whole family. I don’t get to see my family very often so it was a really good day. Not only was I excited about my family, but also I was excited for the meal. Thanksgiving is always my favorite meal of the year because it’s so much and it’s all so good. My family is really into the card game, Spades. It gets very competitive and that makes it so much fun. I played two games and lost both so that kind of sucked, but it was still fun. Most of the family left around nine that night. I loved seeing all of my family and hopefully I’ll get to see them sometime soon again.
Friday I woke up and had to help clean up all the mess from the day before, but I didn’t mind helping out. I just hung out with my cousins until it was dinnertime. My parent’s friends came over again with their daughter and they fixed dinner for us. My sister also came too. She brought her daughter as well. I was glad I got to spend a lot of time with my sister over the break because she’s really cool. I loved seeing her daughter too because she’s adorable. She’ll be two on Christmas Eve so she’s reaching that age where she’s talking a lot. Friday night I went to a party at one of my friend’s houses and it was really fun. A lot of my old friends were there so we all got to hang out and have a good time.
I spent the rest of my break pretty much hanging out with Alex. I feel like no matter how much time I spend with her, I’m still going to miss her like crazy when I’m not around her. She’s is the most fun person I’ve ever met and I’m already ready to go back home to see her. Luckily we don’t have too much longer until Christmas break. Well my break was great and hopefully Christmas will be even better.

Thanksgiving Week
This past week was pretty easy. I really just had to write a paper and take a quiz. It did kind of suck though because I got pretty sick and couldn’t get motivated to do anything. I went to shiffert and luckily it was only a cold. They gave me some medicine so I’m feeling a lot better now. Since I was sick I didn’t do much over the weekend and it was pretty boring. Really the only thing I did was go to work, which actually was fun because I met some cool people.
I hope this week goes by fast because I have a lot planned for the weekend. I have a calculus test that I have to take tomorrow and I’m really not looking forward to it. I also need to finish this English paper because my rough draft pretty much sucked. I don’t really have much else other than those two things. I have to work on Tuesday and Wednesday, but hopefully that won’t be too bad. Last Wednesday I had to work in Cantina at Owens and I hated it. I had to learn what everything was and it was so busy. I’ve also had to work in Philly, Carvery, and Pasta. My favorite so far is probably Carvery or Pasta. Those two I pretty much just have to scoop food and restock whatever food is gone. After Wednesday evening things will be very easy and I will be very excited because my weekend is going to be great.
One of the things that I’m looking forward to the most is Thursday/Friday at midnight. My roommate and I have been looking forward to seeing the movie New Moon for so long. When I first moved in I watched Twilight with her and I loved it so much that I decided to read the books. I actually just recently finished reading the New Moon book which makes me even more excited to see the movie. We were just going to wait until Friday to go see it, but now we’re going to go on Thursday night. We’re so obsessed with going to see it that we watch the commercial like five times a day. It’s pretty ridiculous, but the movie will be so good and I can’t wait to see it.
On Friday, I’m not really sure what I’ll be doing yet. I have English class and I have to go take a math quiz at the empo, but I don’t know of anything else as of now. Saturday, there is a football game against N.C. State. My roommate and I both have a ticket so we’re going to go together. I’m really excited for the game because we have awesome seats. We’re in section 104 which is like right in front of the field. My friend, Brittany, is also coming with us so I’m sure we will have a good time. Depending on what time the game ends, my roommate and I might be going home. If it doesn’t end until late we will leave on Sunday.
What I’m most excited for is Thanksgiving break. I’m so excited to see my friends and family. There are some friends I haven’t seen since the summer and we’ve all decided we’re going to hang out one day over our break. I’m really excited to see my family as well because I’ve only seen them a couple of times since I’ve been at college.
Thanksgiving Day is going to be great. I can’t wait until I can get a homemade cooked meal. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because I get to see my whole family and eat delicious food. We have a tradition that we watch Christmas Vacation together every Thanksgiving. We also always play the card game, Spades, with each other. We are very competitive when it comes to card games.
I’m sure I’ll probably go shopping the day after Thanksgiving because I usually do. I’m hoping that I can spend a lot of time with my friend, Alex. I’ve seen her more than anyone else from home, but she’s my best friend so I still miss her a lot. I will probably hang out with her and other friends until Sunday when I have to come home. Hopefully the week will be as great as I expect it to be.

Good Weekend
This weekend was one of my best so far. The reason it started so great was because on Thursday I had an exam and got an 86 on it. Since I’ve been here I’ve really struggled with my classes and I felt so relieved to finally do well on an exam. The good thing was that it was an ACIS exam and since I’m a business major I have to get a C or better to pass the class. I was so excited about my B so I went out with a couple of my friends on Thursday night. We went to the hooka bar, She Shaw’s. While we were there we played a few card games and it was really fun.
On Friday I slept in until around eleven and it felt great. I went to English and then had to go take a quiz at the math emporium. I hadn’t even looked at the lessons and had about thirty minutes until I had to start the quiz. I just glanced at the lessons and hoped for the best. Amazingly I got a five out of six on the quiz so that made me really happy. My friend picked me up from the empo and then we went back to her apartment. She was throwing a camouflage party that night and we were making our own dresses. Well actually my friend’s sister was making them for us because neither of us actually knew how to sew. So it took about five hours for my friend’s sister to make all three dresses, but they all looked cute. Mine was originally too loose, but then she took it in and it became way too tight. I was going to get her to redo mine, but three people at the apartment said it looked really cute so I just wore it like it was. After our dresses were made, we went to subway for dinner and it was so delicious. I’m so used to eating at the same places everyday so I forgot what subway was like. We went back to my friend’s apartment after that and got ready for the party.
The party got started around 9, but at first there weren’t many people at all. It didn’t seem like many people were going to show up so we decided that we would go to another party if not a lot of people came. Around 10:30 a bunch of my friends came, and we all stayed at the apartment for a little bit longer. At eleven we all left and walked to another party that was in Terrace View. It was some guy’s 21st birthday party. It was a pretty crazy party and there were a lot of people there. They had a beer pong table that was made out of condom wrappers. I thought it was pretty funny. We left that party around 1:30 with the intention of going to back to my friend’s apartment and going to sleep. Once we got to her apartment her sister keeps telling me that she wants to go back out. Her sister is a senior in high school so she’s not really used to going out. So I told her I would take her back to the party, but only for like 30 minutes. We went back to the party and there was like nobody there so we just turned around and left. When we were crossing the street to go back to my friend’s apartment, this guy was like “follow me the cars won’t hit me.” It was quite hilarious. He went to the bus stop and there were probably like thirty people there. My friend’s sister and I then started talking to all of these people and they were pretty exciting. The bus came and she wanted to keep talking to them so I told her we could get on and then just go in a circle back to her sister’s apartment. We get on the bus and she asks me when the bus stops running. It was then that I realized that it was 1:59. I was feeling pretty stupid at that point. So we got off on Washington Street and I called a friend and told him to come get us. When I told him what I did he said something like “wow you’re dumb.” We got back to my friend’s apartment around 2:45 and stayed up for another hour talking to each other. We finally decided to go to sleep around 4.
Saturday morning I woke up and realized that it was going to be my first day of work. I was really nervous at first. My friend, Erin walked with me to Owen’s because she had to work too. I was clueless as to what I was supposed to do when I first got there. I had to work in pasta and it was actually a lot easier than I had expected. I worked until about 9:30 and then went back to my dorm. As soon as I walked in my roommate said “dang you smell like food.” That was when I decided to take a shower. I went and hung out with at my friend’s apartment last night, but we just watched some tv. When I walked in here door I saw that the condom wrapper table was in their apartment. Apparently, the guy’s parents were going to his place and he had to hide the table somewhere.
Today I have done nothing except for this blog. This was definitely a lazy day for me so I guess I’ll have to be more motivated tomorrow. My weekend was really great and I had a lot of fun.

Halloween Weekend/Eric O'Shea Video

I feel like this year Halloween was a lot more exciting for me. The last few years I haven’t done much for Halloween, just because I felt too old to be dressing up. This year was a lot different because like everyone I hang out with was so excited to be dressing up. I wasn’t that excited at first, but then once I got everything for my costume I was really excited to wear it.
My costume was a hippie. I bought this purple skirt and wore a black shirt that had a bunch of peace stuff on it. My friend, Brittany, let me borrow her peace sign earrings and necklace. I also had two peace sign bracelets so I was all decked out in peace sign jewelry. My other friend, Stephanie, did my hair in braids. I loved my outfit so much and I think I pulled it off.
Another thing that was really exciting about this Halloween was that we had a door decorating contest in my dorm. My roommate was so excited about that because she loves decorating. First, we put a tablecloth around the door that had spooky looking eyes on it. Then, we decorated it with skeletons, pumpkins, ghosts, and some other stuff. We put a bucket of candy out so people could take some. We were going to put lights around the door, but the cord wasn’t long enough. Overall our door looked awesome. We probably spent over thirty dollars on all the decorations. Our RA informed us yesterday that we got third place in the contest. Our prize was a little bag of candy. Sadly, we had to take all of our decorations down today, but oh well there is always Christmas.
So last night I went to a Halloween party in Foxridge. It was a crazy party and their apartment was all decked out in decorations. They covered all of their walls with black trash bags and had flickering Halloween lights. One of the guys that lived there said they spent about a thousand dollars on everything, but of course they had bought a ton of alcohol too. Along with their decorations, they had two ice sculptures. You can probably guess the shapes they were made into. I had never seen them before and I thought it was quite hilarious. There were probably at least one hundred people at the party, but it was still really great.
It really sucks to have to go back to all this work after such a great weekend. I really hope this week flies by because I’m already ready for next weekend. I have an ACIS and Calculus exam this week and I need to do well on both of them. The one thing I am looking forward to this week is starting my new job at Owen’s Food Court. I had a training today and I have one tomorrow. Then hopefully on Friday I can start working because I definitely need the money. I think it’ll actually be a fun job because I will get to meet some new people. Brittany works there too so at least I will have someone that I know already. I think I’m going to really enjoy working there or at least I hope so.
Well I can’t really think of much else to write about so I will write about this video I watched the other day that I thought was really funny. My roommate and I were sitting in our room and she told me to come watch this video with her. It’s a comedian talking about how television commercials should have better songs to promote their products. He uses really good songs to go with the topics he’s talking about. One topic he uses is Viagra and then he uses the song, “You Raise Me Up.” That example was the funniest to me. There are other really good ones too like for the topic pregnancy tests, he uses the song “Wasn’t Me.” Whenever I feel down I go watch it because I think it’s a mood booster. Sometimes I will watch Katt Williams too because he is hilarious. If you’ve never heard him, you should go to youtube and watch him because you will laugh your butt off. Anyways, I don’t know what else to write about so this is where I’m ending this blog.

Stressful Week Ahead
I think that this week is going to be very stressful for me. This weekend I went home and I didn’t come back to tech until this morning so I didn’t do any of my work and I’m feeling very behind. I really hope I can catch up, but I’m not sure if it will happen.
This morning I left home at 4:30 in the morning and got back to tech around 8:30. I really should have done some work when I got back, but I was too tired so I just went to sleep until noon. I went to my two classes and now I am writing this blog to get it over with. After this I will probably try to get some other work done and then get some rest. I have been really sick the last few days and all I want to do is sleep so that is making it difficult for me to do my work. I have like a million things to do and I know it’s gonna be hard to get it all done.
Tomorrow I have two classes and as of right now I haven’t done my homework for either of them. After those two classes I will probably try to get some more work done so the end of the week won’t be so stressful. I also have a job interview for Owen’s food court tomorrow. I’m actually pretty excited about that because I really need money and two of my really good friends work there as well. I think working at Owen’s won’t be too bad because they don’t make people work more than three days a week, which is really awesome. Also the salary is pretty good and I will get a free meal with every shift I work. Hopefully I will get the job, but my friend told me that no one ever really gets rejected so I should be okay. Sometime tomorrow night I will try to go work out because I haven’t been doing it often and I need to get back into the routine.
Wednesday I only have one class and that is English. I’m very glad because I will need a lot of time to study for my Psychology exam that I have on Thursday. I will have to study a whole lot for that exam because I failed the first one and I need to do a lot better to get my grade up in the class.
Thursday I have ACIS and Psychology. I have my exam in Psychology and I really hope I do well on it. Thursday night will probably be the best part of my week because I won a student ticket to the football game and I am really excited. This is the second game I will have gone to and I hope it will be as great as the first one. My only hope is that it doesn’t rain because when I went to the Miami game it was freezing and I’d like to experience a game where it isn’t raining. Right now only one of my friends won a ticket so I’m really hoping that some more of my friends will. That way we can all go together. When I went to the Miami game I only went with one other person, so hopefully this time we can get a whole group that can go. I think the game will be really fun and I think it will help relieve some of my stress since I will be having a good time. I’m sure I will probably do something after the game with a bunch of my friends because we usually do.

I get really frustrated with math because I try so hard, but always do awful on quizzes. After my quiz I will be done with work for the week and I will be so happy for that.
I’m sure I’ll probably go to at least one Halloween party over the weekend. Now I just need to get a costume. I’ve looked around, but haven’t found anything I like yet. Hopefully I will soon or I won’t be anything. The good thing about the weekend is that I will be here and will be able to get some work done before next week. That’s the only thing I don’t like about going home. I always get behind because I don’t want to do work when I’m home; I want to spend time with my friends and family. I hope next week will be less stressful than this one is going to be.

After those two classes I will probably try to get some more work done so the end of the week won’t be so stressful. I also have a job interview for Owen’s food court tomorrow. I’m actually pretty excited about that because I really need money and two of my really good friends work there as well. I think working at Owen’s won’t be too bad because they don’t make people work more than three days a week, which is really awesome. Also the salary is pretty good and I will get a free meal with every shift I work. Hopefully I will get the job, but my friend told me that no one ever really gets rejected so I should be okay. Sometime tomorrow night I will try to go work out because I haven’t been doing it often and I need to get back into the routine.
Wednesday I only have one class and that is English. I’m very glad because I will need a lot of time to study for my Psychology exam that I have on Thursday. I will have to study a whole lot for that exam because I failed the first one and I need to do a lot better to get my grade up in the class.
Thursday I have ACIS and Psychology. I have my exam in Psychology and I really hope I do well on it. Thursday night will probably be the best part of my week because I won a student ticket to the football game and I am really excited. This is the second game I will have gone to and I hope it will be as great as the first one. My only hope is that it doesn’t rain because when I went to the Miami game it was freezing and I’d like to experience a game where it isn’t raining. Right now only one of my friends won a ticket so I’m really hoping that some more of my friends will. That way we can all go together. When I went to the Miami game I only went with one other person, so hopefully this time we can get a whole group that can go. I think the game will be really fun and I think it will help relieve some of my stress since I will be having a good time. I’m sure I will probably do something after the game with a bunch of my friends because we usually do.
Friday I only have English, but sometime I will have to go to the math empo to take a quiz. I am really dreading doing that because I suck at Calculus and I will probably do badly on it. I get really frustrated with math because I try so hard, but always do awful on quizzes. After my quiz I will be done with work for the week and I will be so happy for that.
I’m sure I’ll probably go to at least one Halloween party over the weekend. Now I just need to get a costume. I’ve looked around, but haven’t found anything I like yet. Hopefully I will soon or I won’t be anything. The good thing about the weekend is that I will be here and will be able to get some work done before next week. That’s the only thing I don’t like about going home. I always get behind because I don’t want to do work when I’m home; I want to spend time with my friends and family. I hope next week will be less stressful than this one is going to be.

Upcoming Weekend
I’m really hoping this week will go by fast because I think I’m going to take a trip home to surprise my family and friends. I go home a lot, but that’s because I love the small town environment and I love seeing my friends. In order to go home, I first have to find a ride because I don’t have a car here. One of my friends goes home almost every weekend so hopefully he’ll go home again.
I think the biggest reason I like to go home is that I have a group of friends that I’m really close too. All through high school, I pretty much hung out with most of the people a grade lower than me. Every time I go home I still hang out with them because we’re all so close. My biggest problem with college so far is that I’m not meeting very many people and so that’s probably another reason why I love going home and hanging out with my friends.
When I first get home, I’m going to hang out with my parents for a little bit. Then I’m probably going to go to my high school sometime and eat with a bunch of my friends. While I’m there I’ll go see some of my teachers and coaches from last year. That night there will be a football game so I’m going to go to that with a bunch of friends. Friday night I will probably stay at my best friend, Alex’s, house. She has a jeep so we’ll go find some mud and go mudding. Either that or we’ll go swimming. We always do something crazy whenever I come home so I already expect it to happen. Someone will probably be having a party so we’ll most likely go there as well.
Every time I stay at her house her dad will make me breakfast so I’m already looking forward to that. Breakfast usually consists of bacon, eggs, hash browns, sausage, and orange juice. After I leave Alex’s, I’m going to go to my sister, Amanda’s, apartment and visit her and her daughter, Taylor. My sister and I were very close before I left for college and I miss her like crazy. I’m excited to see Taylor too because she keeps getting smarter and smarter. She’s not even two yet, but she can talk your ears off. I can’t wait to see them both.
I’m hoping that on Saturday I can see some of the girls that were on my travel softball team. I would love to play in a tournament, but I don’t think they have one this weekend. That’s one of the things I miss the most about home. I got to play softball all year round for the last four years of my life and now I never get to play anymore. It really sucks because I have no one to play with here. I didn’t make the club team and that really made me upset because that was my chance to play all the time.

Our church has service on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings, but my parents prefer Saturday’s. A tradition of ours is to go out to eat after church and usually we go to a Chinese restaurant called Hunan Village. They have the best Chinese food I have ever eaten.
After that I’m probably going to go four-wheeling with a bunch of my friends. This is actually a different group of friends. My friend, Alex, always comes with me though because she’s the one that introduced it to me. We usually ride with a group of guys because neither of us actually has a 4-wheeler. I can’t wait to go riding because it’s so fun. It’ll get very messy and muddy, but that’s what makes it so fun. I’ll probably clean up after that and then go home so spend some more time with my family.
Sunday morning I will get up and eat breakfast with my parents and then just relax until it’s time to leave to come to tech. I hope the weekend goes by very slow because I love how things are at home. Things can get to chaotic here at tech and at home it’s never busy. I can’t wait to get to drive my car around in the little town of Warsaw. I’m hoping the weekend will be as great as I’m seeing it to be and hopefully it will relieve some of the stress I’m having from schoolwork.

Drunk Driving Continued..

This video is also about preventing drunk drivers from being on the road. The only difference is that this video focuses on teens that are drinking and driving. It had a very emotional appeal because it shows many of the consequences that could happen. Its main audience are those that are teens or under the age of 21.
It starts off showing some children and it says that they when they were young they didn’t know any better because they didn’t have to make so many choices. As they start getting older it shows them drinking at parties and having fun with one another. It doesn’t seem so bad at first until it shows them once they get behind the wheel of a car after drinking.
One of the consequences it shows from drinking and driving is a bloody person lying outside of a car. This is emotional because it shows how someone can really be injured by a drunk driver. Another consequence it shows is a guy in handcuffs. Drinking and driving can get people in serious trouble with the law. If a person is not 21, they can get in a lot more trouble because it is against the law for them to be drinking in the first place. They probably put this in the video to show teens that they can get in serious trouble. There was another part of the video that showed someone being taken out on a stretcher. These images make you feel really sorry for the people that die or are injured in these accidents. The one image that hit me the most was a bunch of men carrying someone in a casket. That was very emotional because it was someone that died over something dumb like alcohol.
No one ever wants to live with the fact that they killed somebody else because of alcohol. The best way to prevent it is to stay off the road if you’ve been drinking. Most teens have a curfew and sometimes they feel like they have to go home or they will be grounded. If they think logically, they realize that being grounded would be better than sitting in jail or killing another person. Drinking and driving is very risky and this video did a good job in trying to prevent it.
At one point in the video it says, “Don’t become a statistic.” One statistic about drunk driving is that alcohol related car accidents kill someone every 30 minutes. Another statistic is that 40 percent of fatalities in car accidents are alcohol related. One in every four car accidents is because of teenage drunk driving. Nobody wants to be a part of these statistics and we don’t have to be. We can save ourselves and others by not driving drunk.
The music appeals to the audience as well as the images. The song is “Hurt” by Christina Aguilera. It is about someone who dies. It is a slow song and it relates to the video so it makes the video seem more emotional. The images were the most appealing thing because they show how bad things are when an drunk driving accident actually occurs.
